Face-to-face tutoring for 4 to 11 year olds in phonics, reading, English and maths in Bury St Edmunds.

I have over 20 years' experience teaching in local schools and have been head of maths, Key Stage One and Reception. I also have four children of my own (now teenagers). I no longer work in schools. Tutoring and my parent mentoring are now my full-time work. (Please see the membership page for details of how I help parents support their 3-8 year olds themselves).

I tutor mainly in groups, which are very small with only 2-4 children. I work from my dedicated tutoring room in my home which is near the hospital in Bury St Edmunds and has off-street parking for parents.

I thrive on making the lessons active and fun but my main aim is always to increase children's confidence and love of learning first and foremost, and by doing so, their abilities and skills improve rapidly.

All my lessons follow what the children will be covering in school in the same order, often in advance, giving them a pre-teach so they feel more confident when covering it in school.

I have a great deal of experience in teaching children with a wide variety of needs, but regardless of any SEN, every single lesson is bespoke and individually tailored to each child's needs. I do offer a few 1:1 sessions when I feel this is the better fit for your child, but these are normally reserved for those with additional needs.

Lesson length :

All lessons are 40 minutes in length for 4-11 year olds, unless agreed otherwise.

Lesson times and days:

4pm-4.40pm

4.50-5.30pm

5.40-6.20pm

Daily Monday to Friday.

Lesson prices:

For group tutoring - 40 minute sessions:

• £35/lesson when paying weekly, with a £100 deposit to hold the space for the whole term.
• £30/per lesson when a whole term is paid for in advance of the term starting.

For paired tutoring - 40-minute sessions

Note 1:2 lessons are offered with priority for those with SEN or for whom a suitable group is not available.

• £45 per lesson when paying weekly, with a £100 deposit to hold the space for the whole term.
• £40 per lesson when a whole term is paid for in advance of the term starting.

For 1:1 tutoring - 40-minute sessions

Note 1:1 lessons are offered with priority for those with SEN or behavioural needs eg severe anxiety, for whom learning with others is not yet suitable.

• £55 per lesson when paying weekly, with a £100 deposit to hold the space for the whole term.
• £50 per lesson when a whole term is paid for in advance of the term starting.

Before taking a child on, I always suggest a 1:1 assessment session to work out just what your child's needs are, both academic and personal. I then look to see if I have a group that will be a great match. Please understand that at times there will be groups with spaces for your child's age and yet I may not feel it's a good fit. I work very hard at making great matches and don't simply take children on whenever there is a space.

Assessment sessions are 1:1 and £50. They are informal and fun, to inform me of their needs and rough levels, not to give detailed graded feedback to parents.

Cancellation policy:

Up to 2 missed lessons a year will be refunded at 50% a lesson, regardless of reason, as a good will gesture as I appreciate children get ill. All further missed lessons are charged in full.

Stopping tuition - it is organised termly; mid-term cancellations are not refunded. Please let me know if you plan to stop at the end of any term.
